FAQs about Logs Monitoring

What are logs?

A log is a time-stamped record of an event that happens in your system or an application. The events can be errors, user activities, website, system processes and hardware states.

An event log from a web server can contain information such as an IP address, date, time, and type of request.

With real-time logging you can easily detect all the issues and fix them before your customer notices it.

What is the use of logging?

The log files are used to track what's going on behind the scenes in your system. An error in your system, for instance, will allow you to access a detailed list of events before and after the malfunctioning.

It provides visibility into how your applications are running on various infrastructure.

Log data enables developers to easily debug or maintain someone's code.

What is the difference between logging and monitoring?

Monitoring and logging go hand in hand.

Logging generates a detailed set of events that occurs in your application while monitoring gives you detailed metrics on how your application is working.

The logs will help you identify the major cause of the problem. When you incorporate logging and monitoring, you can resolve customer issues caused by the performance bottlenecks in your application much faster.

How do you monitor log events?

With the help of the log monitoring tools, you can easily store all log events and detect the root cause of the issues that occur in your application.

Atatus gives you a unified view of logs with real-time log analysis, metrics and traces under a single dashboard. It includes a query and search function that allows you to filter log records according to your convenience.
